Gold Conversion Guide: Grams, Ounces, Tola, Vori, Baht — Explained with Charts

Gold is quoted globally per troy ounce (31.1035 g), but retail jewelry is usually weighed in grams — and in many regions still in tola, vori, baht, chi, tael, or don. This guide gives you the reference constants, practical formulas, and an easy conversion table.

Before You Convert: Purity vs. Weight

• 1 troy ounce = 31.1035 g
• 1 tola (≈ vori/bhori) = 11.6638 g
• 1 baht (Thailand) = 15.244 g
• 1 chi (Vietnam) = 3.75 g
• 1 don (Korea) = 3.75 g
• 1 tael (Hong Kong convention) = 37.5 g (regional standards vary)

Quick Conversion Table

Worked Examples

1) 2 tola → grams → ounces

2 × 11.6638 = 23.3276 g → 23.3276 ÷ 31.1035 = 0.75 oz t (approx.)

2) 1 oz t → grams → baht

1 × 31.1035 = 31.1035 g → 31.1035 ÷ 15.244 = ~2.04 baht

3) 20 g → chi → tael

20 ÷ 3.75 = 5.333… chi; since 10 chi ≈ 1 tael (37.5 g), that’s ~0.533 tael

Using Conversions to Estimate Price

To estimate bullion value, first convert the weight to grams of pure gold, then multiply by the per-gram spot rate. (Retail prices also include making/design charges, taxes, brand premiums.)

pure_gold_weight_g = total_weight_g × (karat / 24)
bullion_value = pure_gold_weight_g × (spot_price_per_oz ÷ 31.1035)
